| Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen and published in 1813. However it's STILL one of the most loved classics My review:I read this novel in a LONG road trip and it was quite entertaining. It's mainly about Miss Elizabeth Bennet whom we see the characters from her prospective. She was strongly attached to her older sister Jane even though they viewed the world differently. Elizabeth , in spite of her intelligence, elegance and charming character, tended to make harsh judgments while her sister believed that most of people's actions are due to their good intentions. Elizabeth became acquainted with Mr Darcy whose social class is higher than hers and whom Elizabeth judged to be proud. Mr. Darcy seems to be a great match to Elizabeth because of his intelligence and sophisticated manners . However to get married, Mr. Darcy has to overcome his pride and Elizabeth has to overcome her prejudice.. The novel is great .The plot is very captivating , with some surprises and a delightful happy ending. Furthermore, the characters are well presented , even though we see them through Elizabeth's eyes. After reading the novel I ended up loving Elizabeth's unique character and wise opinions, Mr. Darcy's respectful manners and Jane's sweet attitude. In addition to that the dialogue is elegant and amusing. Moreover, I liked the lovely relationship between the two sisters , their opinions regarding marriage , how the five sisters' characters varied strongly and the sarcasm of their father. As result, I can't help but love the novel. Due to Austen's beautiful style of writing, I read Austen's other nice novel "Persuasion" after reading this one . My rating is About the Author Jane Austen: - اقتباس :
Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, earned her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Her realism and biting social commentary have gained her historical importance among scholars and critics.
Austen lived her entire life as part of a close-knit family located on the lower fringes of the English landed gentry. She was educated primarily by her father and older brothers as well as through her own reading. The steadfast support of her family was critical to her development as a professional writer. Her artistic apprenticeship lasted from her teenage years into her thirties. During this period, she experimented with various literary forms, including the epistolary novel which she then abandoned, and wrote and extensively revised three major novels and began a fourth. From 1811 until 1816, with the release of Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816), she achieved success as a published writer. She wrote two additional novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, both published posthumously in 1818, and began a third, which was eventually titled Sanditon, but died before completing it. quoted from Wikipedia | |

| Quotes I liked from the novel:“Angry people are not always wise.” “Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.” “There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.” “You must learn some of my philosophy. Think only of the past as its remembrance gives you pleasure.” “You expect me to account for opinions which you choose to call mine, but which I have never acknowledged.” “I certainly have not the talent which some people possess,' said Darcy, "of conversing easily with those I have never seen before. I cannot catch their tone of conversation, or appear interested in their concerns, as I often see done.” And the good humor of Lizzy's father: “An unhappy alternative is before you, Elizabeth. From this day you must be a stranger to one of your parents. Your mother will never see you again if you do not marry Mr. Collins, and I will never see you again if you do.” | |
